The company has expanded over the past year throughout the North East and North West and following local project wins in Cumbria a base of operations was required. Demolition of buildings in Newcastle upon Tyne

Safer Demo completes the full demolition and asbestos removal of 2 industrial buildings in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne on Stepney Road in Byker. The demolition consisted of 2 industrial buildings, a former gym and adjacent joinery workshop. The buildings were soft stripped by the teams and then systematically demolished to leave the main contractor (Adderstone Group) with a clean slate to work with prior to the construction of 3 blocks of student flats and associated parking. The site had a number of challenging factors including asbestos and knotweed across the site. Safer Demo assisted in the removal and disposal of the hazardous items alongside the general clean-up of the site. The project was successfully completed ahead of schedule to the client's satisfaction and within budget.

Demolition of Bungalow

Demolition of Bungalow

Safer Demo wins contract to demolish and alter below ground drainage on bungalow in Whitley Bay. Safer Demo has been instructed to demolish a bungalow in Whitley Bay following on from the great service received by the client from Safer Asbestos Solutions. Safer Demo started the works by securing the site and setting up the required CDM facilities. Following this site set up the team set about removing the asbestos items located within the asbestos demolition survey. All member of the team are fully trained in asbestos removal alongside their other day to day demolition training. The works involved removing asbestos at height and as such scaffold towers were deployed internally to assist with the works. All towers were constructed by our in house trained PASMA crew. The asbestos removal was completed with removal of asbestos floor tiles and asbestos textured coating throughout the property. The next phase of the works consisted of soft stripping the building. Man Made Mineral fibre was removed from the loft void and wet through within the wall cavities to avoid movement during demolition. All timber was removed and sent off for recycling. The main demolition started with the small garage to the side of the building being brought down to ground level. This assisted the excavator with regards to access to the apex of the building. From here the excavator systematically demolished the roof structure, walls and associated features down to floor level. Working from the front of the site to the back the excavator sorted through the materials brought off the site and arranged piles of material prior to loading and removal from site. Once the full structure was to ground level and the recyclable materials removed the excavator moved onto the main slab and foundations grubbing up the brick and concrete from the rear of the site to the front. The machine also removed the now redundant below ground drainage and associated pipe work to allow for new construction to commence. Demolition of 64 buildings in 32 days

Safer Demo has recently completed the full demolition including asbestos removal of 64 buildings in 32 days for the MOD. The works commenced following a 1 month planning stage and covered 5 bases throughout the North of England and Southern Scotland. The demolition teams started by removing the asbestos items within the building. The asbestos was encountered during the survey phase of the works. After the asbestos removal the soft strip phase of the works was undertaken. Soft stripping was required to remove the necessary recyclable materials and separated the materials into the relevant waste streams. All materials considered to be recyclable were stripped and sent off to the relevant transfer / sorting facilities for future uses. Following the soft strip demolition was conducted by excavators. The process was undertaken in a single day. The trained drivers were instructed to systematically dismantle the building working from one end to the other. The second excavator sorted and screened out any materials not suitable for crushing prior to loading up an onsite crusher for material re-use on the MOD site. The re-used material and hard-core was considered a high enough quality to be used on the bases roads and infrastructure. The demolition works were completed in good time and on budget. The slab was scraped to allow the new area to be used for additional car parking during large scale upcoming army exercises and operations. Any imperfections upon the slab were removed using burning kits or filled using batch concrete. In addition to the demolition on site our team built new foundations for a demountable kitchen unit through the use of formwork and bulk concrete. Following the creation of the slabs (some on a difficult sloping site) our team lowered the kitchen storage unit and associated freezer (weighing 4 tonnes) onto the newly constructed slabs. The new kitchen facilities created a new useable kitchen area for visiting troops and cadets. The site works were fully completed after 12 days on site (on going works continued throughout the other regions). The camp commandant was pleased with the final area and happy that he now has the space to park the vehicles arriving for upcoming operations.

Asbestos Cement Pipe Removal

Safer Demo in partnership with Safer Asbestos Solutions removes 850 meters of 400mm asbestos cement pipe safely and on schedule for NWL alongside Lumsden and Carroll. The team successfully removed the pipe work in a 2 week period. All works were conducted in a safe manner and fully within the current regulations and within budget. The team removed over 101 tonnes of asbestos cement using a mixture of hand digging and excavators to safely remove the material. The pipes were anywhere between 1.5m and 4.5m below ground level. The pipes were raised from the ground using slings under suppression and safe working techniques. The team successfully completed the project in challenging conditions with horrendous weather and working on an active quarry with large machines, excavators and dumpers alongside daily blasting.

Safer Demo completes full demolition of school lab

Safer Demo has recently completed the full demolition of 2 former school laboratory buildings in Jesmond. The buildings were deemed obsolete and as such surplus to requirements. The Safer Demo team entered the site following confirmation of full planning permission and fully secured the site. The site was fenced and signposted to all sides to ensure the site remained secure throughout the works. Once this stage was completed the team soft stripped the internal and external elements of the building ensuring all recyclable materials were fully removed and disposed of from site. Following this Safer Demo brought in excavators to systematically demolish the building in a controlled fashion until all above ground elements has been firstly dropped to ground level and then removed fully from site to our subcontracted recycling centre. Once the above ground structure was removed the team focused on the below ground foundations and slabs ensuring all elements were fully removed and disposed of. The project was completed in full ahead of schedule and on budget. As a result of the teams hard work and excellent on site works Safer Demo then secured further ground works and demolition and strip out works upon the site.
